BAY CITY UKERS
Hello and welcome!
Hello and welcome to the blog for Bay City Ukers, a (presently) small and stalwart band of ukulele addicts of all ages and levels of ability, meeting in Herne Bay, Kent at the Herne Bay Angling Association on the seafront once a month. We started meeting in February 2011. The idea was to create a uke group for people living on the coastal strip of East Kent who found it hard to get to groups in the more central towns.
Playing ukulele has become an extremely popular pastime again over the last few years and uke groups are appearing everywhere. Each is different but ours focuses on simply having fun playing together and doesn't take itself seriously. Beginners are very welcome and we can choose some easy songs to play if you have only just started.
Please feel free to email me, Blog Editor Grace, on hippolovesdavid@gmail.com or Our Leader Gordon on zygite@gmail.com if you have any further questions this blog doesn't answer. Hope to see you along! And oh, by the way, the wearing of tartan is neither necessary nor obligatory... but you can if you really want :0) !!
BAY CITY UKERS NEXT MEETING IS....
Thursday May 17th at the Herne Bay Angling Association, 59, Central Parade, Herne Bay, Kent. CT6 5JG, from 7.30 p.m. onwards (meetings usually last a couple of hours, sometimes a little more). The room we meet in is downstairs from the bar (no wheelchair access, unfortunately, but please still contact us even if this will be a problem to you).

Dear All
Thank you for turning out to what was a loud and crowded uke jam last week - by my guestimate there were about 25 of us there? All in fine voice and willing to give it a go.
Next meeting is 12 April at the same place same time. I'll try to get there a little earlier next time to organise the seating a bit more efficiently...
Keep an eye on the blogspot for news and don't forget the inaugural (easier to write it then say it)- Quex Uke club tomorrow.
Best wishes,
Gordon

Dear Ukers,
Another great night for the Bay City Ukers. Thanks to all who came along in such good voice.
I hope that there was something there for everyone, and that things were pitched just about right. Our next meeting is on 7 March, same time same place. I'll try to remember to send out a reminder a week or so before.
Keep the suggestions coming for the next Bay City Ukers song book, and again thanks to Grace for keeping up the website.
All the best and see you for the next one.

Dear Ukers and Ukists,
It is no longer Christmasandnewyearperiod so it must be time to limber up the vocal chords and strumming fingers for the next Uke Jam.
Hope to see you all at the Herne Bay Angling Association, Central Parade, Herne Bay from 19.30hrs on Thursday 26 January for more four-stringed mayhem. At the last meet it was standing room only with about 20 of us, so don't forget that if you've something you'd like us to have a go at bring plenty of copies.
Hope you all had a safe and happy festive time, and I look forward to seeing you all on the 26th.
For the youtubers among you I've been recommended the anarchic 'Everly Pregnant Brothers' and happily pass it on for your edification and bemusement.
Best wishes,
Gordon

Dear Ukers,
I hope you'd agree that a big turn-out last night made for a very fine evening of enthusiastic uking. We warmed up with a drunken sailor, tweaked the nose of a red-nosed reindeer, lost ourselves in the Fields of Athenry and finished up somewhere over a rainbow.
Keep the suggestions coming for a third 'Bay City Ukers' songbook, and hope to see you all on the 7 December for the next jam.
Best wishes,
Gordon

Message from Our Leader Gordon
Dear All,
The next uke jam will take place at the usual venue (Herne Bay Angling Association) on Thursday 3rd November.
I'm pleased to say I'll be there, and I've been asked to bring along some Christmas songs - feel free to put your mind to this and bring something festive along.
Hope you'll be able to make it, and I look forward to seeing you there.
Best wishes,
Gordon

Message from Our Leader Gordon dated 21st July 2011
Dear All,
I hope you all enjoyed the Bay City Ukers jam session last night - I know that I did, and it was good to see so many there.
Thanks again to Grace and Dave for printing out the song books - as we said last night if everyone who comes can print out one or two copies then we should have plenty to share and the printing burden is lightened by sharing. Like a big cake. Or an elephant.
Next meeting is pencilled in for 25 August. If you feel brave enough to do a solo number or duet (or even a triet?) feel free to practice and give it a go in front of an admiring and sympathetic audience.
Those who want to try some different strums may wish to have a look at Ukulele Mike's tutorials on Youtube, while I can recommend the dangerously named Ukulele Hunt website for tabs, chords and inspiration. Keep an eye on the blog for updates
See you next time, and wishing you all a good summer,
Gordon
